Sherwood Youth Lacrosse

Overview:
SYL boy's recreational youth lacrosse program is open to both new and returning lacrosse players. SYL will field multiple teams in Boys 1/2, 3/4, Boys 5/6, and Boys 7/8 Leagues. The primary objective of the program at this level is to develop important skills, know the rules, learn to work together as a team, cultivate a love for the game of lacrosse and most importantly, HAVE FUN!

Time Commitment:
There will be an estimated 2 practices and 1-2 games per week.  There will be times when a game may be scheduled during a practice.  Practice will be held twice a week starting early March and continue through the end of May.

Registration:

Players can register by clicking on REGISTER.  Registration closes February 13. Method of payment is via credit card only through our website. US Lacrosse membership is required for all players $30 due for entire year.

Even if there is a waitlist, please register. We will form as many teams as we can and you will not be charged until you are placed on a team.

Team Formation
In the event of multiple teams per grade level, the youth coaching staff will conduct evaluations for all registered players in early March.  Once the evaluation sessions are completed the coaches will equally divide the teams, to the best of their ability, so that each team will have a fair opportunity to compete with other teams in our rec league.  Once teams are formed, you will be notified what team your son is on, who your coaches will be and when/where your scheduled practices will take place.

Volunteer Coaches:
Each team will be coached by parent volunteers who have experience coaching at this level. Please consider getting involved as a Team Parent so the coaches can focus on coaching, rather than administrative concerns. No experience necessary - just a big heart.

We will be conducting coaching clinics in February. These clinics are open to any parent wanting to learn more about the game. Parent participation is key to assuring that our players learn the game of lacrosse in a safe, fun, and organized environment. Please help out by being a parent coach, assistant coach, team parent, or coach helper.

Equipment:
Every player must have the following equipment each week:

  • Lacrosse Stick (Crosse)
  • Lacrosse Helmet (Meets all NOCSAE standards)
  • Lacrosse gloves
  • Lacrosse shoulder pads (Meets all NOCSAE standards- New standards in 2022)
  • Lacrosse arm guards
  • Cup
  • Mouth guard (Custom Mouthguard fittings offered each spring)
